۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 “And stop them they are to be questioned.” 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
