The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails, 13 Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
