a good many of olden times, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
