In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
