Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
