a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 But those of the left hand -- how those of the left hand -- 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten - 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 "We are ruined, 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike. 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
