In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
