The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
