[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 when their brother Shu'ayb said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 177 I am a trustworthy messenger to you: 178 Have fear of God and obey me. 179 I ask no recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 180 ۞ Give full measure, and cause no loss to others. 181 Weigh with correct scales: 182 And defraud not people of their things, and commit not corruption on the earth. 183 Fear Him who created you, and the generations of the ancients.' 184 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched, 185 for thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! And behold, we think that thou art a consummate liar! 186 "So cause a piece of the heaven to fall on us, if you are of the truthful!" 187 He. said: My Lord is the Best Knower of that which ye work. 188 But they rejected him. Then the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom seized them, and that was the Penalty of a Great Day. 189 In this there is an evidence of the Truth, but many of them did not have any faith. 190 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 191
