And certainly Haroun had said to them before: O my people! you are only tried by it, and surely your Lord is the Beneficent Allah, therefore follow me and obey my order. 90 But they answered: "By no means shall we cease to worship it until Moses returns to us." 91 Said Moosa, “O Haroon – what prevented you when you saw them going astray?” 92 So that you did not follow me? Did you then disobey my order? 93 He said: O son of my mother! Clutch not my beard nor my head! I feared lest thou shouldst say: Thou hast caused division among the Children of Israel, and hast not waited for my word. 94 Said [Moses]: "What, then, didst thou have in view, O Samaritan?" 95 (Samiri) said: "I saw what they saw not, so I took a handful (of dust) from the hoof print of the messenger [Jibrael's (Gabriel) horse] and threw it [into the fire in which were put the ornaments of the Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, or into the calf]. Thus my inner-self suggested to me." 96 (Moses) said: "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail: Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper: We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!" 97 Your only deity is God, there is no deity but Him. His knowledge encompasses all things." 98 Thus do We relate to thee some stories of what happened before: for We have sent thee a Message from Our own Presence. 99 Whoever turns away from it will bear a heavy burden on the Day of Judgement, 100 And will live for ever under it. How evil the burden they will carry on the Day of Doom! 101 On the day when the trumpet shall be blown, and We will gather the guilty, blue-eyed, on that day 102 In whispers will they speak to each other (saying): "You stayed not longer than ten (days)." 103 We know best what they will say, when their leader most eminent in conduct will say: "Ye tarried not longer than a day!" 104
