Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
