The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
