Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 and gives a little, grudgingly? 34 Does he possess the knowledge of the Unseen, and therefore he sees? 35 Or, has he not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Musa? 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?- 37 That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another. 38 And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad). 39 And that his effort is going to be seen - 40 whereupon he shall be requited for it with the fullest requital; 41 and that the final return is to your Lord, 42 And that it is He Who made (you) laugh and made (you) cry? 43 And He who ordains death and life; 44 and He it is Who created the two kinds, the male and the female, 45 From a seed when lodged (in its place); 46 and that upon Him is the second creation 47 that it is He who gives wealth and possessions; 48 And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius 49 that He it is Who destroyed the ancient 'Ad, 50 And destroyed the tribe of Thamud, not sparing anyone? 51 And before them, the people of Nooh? Indeed they were more unjust and more rebellious than these! 52 And He brought perdition upon the subverted cities 53 So they were covered with whatever covered them? 54 On which then of your Lord's signs do you cast doubt? 55 This is a warner, of the warners of old. 56 The Imminent is near at hand; 57 None, except Allah, can avert it. 58 Will you, then, wonder at this? 59 And you laugh and do not weep 60 While you are proudly sporting? 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
