The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
