The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
