The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great news - 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
