The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
