The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
