۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
