Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter into My garden. 30
