Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
