The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
