The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
