The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 when the stars shall be thrown down, 2 The mountains made to move, 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 And when the girl-child who was buried alive is asked. 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 and Paradise is brought near, 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 The one who is obeyed, and trustworthy. (Other angels obey angel Jibreel). 21 Your companion is not mad. 22 he truly beheld [the angel - beheld] him on the clear horizon; 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Where then will you go? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
