The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
