He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
