Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
