The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
