The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 And We see it nigh. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 who guard their privates 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
