In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
