The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a fitting requital, 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
