The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
