And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
