The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 And how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
