The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
