A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
