The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
