He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
