Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
