The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he thought; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
