Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 and couches raised high, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
