And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
