۞ But We shall say, "Assemble those who did wrong together with their associates and what they worshipped 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 On thrones, facing each other. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They found their father going astray 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
