The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven will be opened it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
