۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
