Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 The command that We have been sending 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
