In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
