He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
