The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
