The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him was with body and soul.) 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
